Secure Gardens

When we write that a dog needs a “secure garden” in a rehoming post, it’s not something that we’ve made up just to annoy potential adopters….it’s because we KNOW that the dog in question is a flight risk or will seek out and attack small furries etc, etc. We’ve had several enquiries recently for dogs which we have specifically said need to have a secure garden and upon following them up, it becomes obvious that the dog in question will be out over the fence / gate / wall as soon as it sees something worth pursuing. Sometimes all that’s needed is to put up a bit of trellis or wire mesh on the top of an existing fence, to deter any Houdinis.

It may be that “my old dog never….” did any of this, but please understand this isn’t a carbon copy of your dog, just because it’s the same colour. We assess the dogs we have here before we rehome them, plus we have information from ex-owners in some cases, and if we feel that the dog isn’t suited to a home offer we will explain why.

Our responsibility is to the dogs in our care and we take this very seriously.
